Everything on this list can be made by a tired adult on a weeknight, most with a kid helping. Many need zero baking.
31. Candy Corn Trail Mix
Dump candy corn, salted peanuts, pretzels, and popcorn in a bowl and stir.
30. Spider Crackers
Sandwich peanut butter between two round crackers, then poke eight pretzel-stick legs into the filling. Two candy eyeballs on top finish the bug.
29. Banana Ghosts
Halve a peeled banana, stand it on the cut end, and press in chocolate chip eyes and a mouth. Congratulations, it’s a ghost. Note: A quick dip in lemon juice keeps the cut ends from browning if you’re prepping a whole platter ahead of a party.
28. Clementine Pumpkins
Peel clementines and stick a short piece of celery in the top of each one as a stem. Instant tiny pumpkins.
27. Witch Hat Cookies
Flip a fudge-striped shortbread cookie upside down, dab frosting in the center, and press a cone-shaped chocolate candy on top. The stripes become the hat brim.
26. Apple Monster Mouths
Cut apple wedges, spread peanut butter on one side, and sandwich mini marshmallow teeth between two slices. Add a candy eyeball above the mouth with a dab of peanut butter. NOTE: A squeeze of lemon juice on the cut apple keeps it from browning if the platter needs to sit out for a bit. The marshmallow teeth stay put better if the peanut butter layer is on the thicker side.
25. Candy Eyeball Pretzels
Melt candy melts, dip mini pretzels halfway, and press on a single candy eyeball before the coating sets. One eye is funnier than two.
24. Spiderweb Chocolate Bark
Spread melted dark chocolate on parchment, then drizzle melted white chocolate in circles and drag a toothpick outward from the center. The drag lines turn the circles into a web.
23. Donut Hole Spiders
Chocolate donut holes grow legs when you poke thin pretzel sticks into their sides. Candy eyeballs go on with a dot of frosting.
22. Pretzel Rod Wands Dip pretzel rods two-thirds deep in melted candy coating, then shower them with Halloween sprinkles over a tray. Stand them in a cup to dry.
21. Candy Corn Fruit Parfaits
Layer clear cups with pineapple chunks and mandarin oranges, then top each one with a cloud of whipped topping. Yellow, orange, white: candy corn colors, no candy corn.
20. Monster Crispy Rice Treats
Make standard crispy rice cereal treats, tint the marshmallow mixture green or purple, and press candy eyeballs on while everything’s still sticky. Mismatched eye sizes make better monsters.
19. Witch Broomsticks
Unwrap mini peanut butter cups, poke a pretzel stick into the flat end, and score the sides of the cup with a knife to look like bristles. Handle plus bristles equals broom.
18. Caramel Apple Slices
Skip the whole apple and go slices: cut rounds, poke in a craft stick, drizzle with melted caramel, and add sprinkles or crushed nuts. All the flavor, none of the jaw workout
17. Ghost Strawberries
Dip strawberries in melted white chocolate, let the excess drip into a little tail, and set them down so the drip forms the ghost’s wispy bottom. Chocolate chip eyes go on before it sets.
16. Frankenstein Pudding Cups
Pistachio pudding is already green, which does most of the work. Spoon it into clear cups, add crushed chocolate sandwich cookies on top for hair, and stick candy eyeballs to the inside of the cup.
15. S’mores Dip
Cover the bottom of a skillet with chocolate chips, blanket the top with marshmallows, and broil for a couple of minutes until golden. Serve bubbling with graham crackers for dipping. Add candy eyeballs to the toasted marshmallows and it goes from campfire to Halloween instantly. * Watch the broiler closely, since golden becomes charcoal in about forty seconds.
14. Witch Finger Cookies
Time for the honesty entry. Witch finger cookies, the ones with almond fingernails and knuckle wrinkles, look easy online and are one of the most common Halloween baking faceplants.
13. Gummy Worm Dirt Cups
Chocolate pudding in a cup, crushed chocolate sandwich cookies on top, gummy worms crawling out.
12. Pumpkin Patch Brownies (BAKE)
Bake a box of brownies, spread chocolate frosting, and sprinkle crushed cookie “soil” on top. Press a candy pumpkin into each square and pipe a squiggle of green vine.
11. Popcorn Monster Hands
Drop a piece of candy corn into each finger of a clear food-safe glove, fingernail-style, then fill the glove with popcorn and tie it off. You’ve made a severed monster hand.
10. Spiderweb Cupcakes (BAKE)
Add Orange, Purple, or Green Frosting plus One plastic spider ring on top and the transformation is complete.
9. Monster Munch Snack Mix
Toss crispy rice-and-corn cereal squares in melted chocolate and peanut butter, then shake everything in a bag with powdered sugar. Stir in orange and purple candy-coated chocolates and candy eyeballs.
8. Crispy Rice Pumpkins
Tint your crispy rice mixture orange, butter your hands, and roll balls instead of pressing a pan. A pretzel stick stem and a leaf of green frosting turn each ball into a pumpkin.
7. Monster Bark
Spread melted chocolate on parchment and go maximalist: broken pretzels, candy corn, sprinkles, candy-coated chocolates, and as many candy eyeballs as feels wrong. Chill and shatter.
6. Mummy Brownies
(BAKE) Pipe white frosting in overlapping horizontal stripes across brownie squares, leaving a small gap for two candy eyeballs to peek through. Messy stripes look more like bandages, so sloppiness is a feature.
5. Mummy Hot Dogs
Wrap hot dogs in thin strips of crescent roll dough, leaving a gap near one end for a face, and bake until golden. Dot on mustard eyes after they cool slightly.
4. Pumpkin Dip
Beat a can of pumpkin with softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and pumpkin pie spice until fluffy.
3. Witches’ Brew Punch
Lime sherbet plus lemon-lime soda in a punch bowl makes a foaming green cauldron with zero effort. Float a few gummy worms or plastic spiders on the foam. The sherbet melts into an eerie fog layer that kids find mesmerizing.
2. Caramel Apples, With a Warning
The full caramel apple is iconic, and it makes the top three on tradition alone.
NOTE: Caramel slides right off waxy supermarket apples. Scrub the wax off with hot water, dry them completely, and chill the apples first.
1. Graveyard Dirt Cake
Layer a big glass dish with chocolate pudding folded into whipped topping, then bury it under a thick layer of crushed chocolate sandwich cookie “soil.” Every layer is a spoon-and-spread job.
